NEVADA CITY, California, November 2, 2021 – The International Sound and Film Festival (ISFMF) was held in Croatia from October 23 to 25 and included more than 1,000 admissions from around the world. The ISFMF is in its eighth consecutive year of recognizing exceptional musical efforts on the film. Nevada County was represented at the film festival by the documentary short “An Evening with Ellen”. The soundtrack features the original Earles of Newtown Broad Street Suite song as sheet music.
“An Evening with Ellen” is a short historical documentary focusing on the life and times of suffragist Ellen Clark Sargent. This video was produced by the Famous Marching Presidents, written and directed by Pamela Biery with actors Mary Baird and Rick Ewald.
Earles of Newtown director Rick Ewald is thrilled that this Nevada County original is bringing his music to the world. “We’re currently busy recording and couldn’t be happier to hear that this smoky, bluesy and creative title track garnered this important early recognition. The entire video project was a local labor of love dedicated to the history of Nevada County.

About “An Evening with Ellen”
Ellen Clark Sargent, a resident of Nevada City, Calif., Was a close friend and ally of Susan B. Anthony. Sargent has served as both treasurer and secretary of the National Woman Suffrage Association (NWSA); an organization founded by Susan B. Anthony. Ellen Sargent was also president of the California Woman Suffrage Association and founded the Nevada County Women Suffrage Association in 1869. She was instrumental in combining the efforts of the East and West coasts into a unified organization, which later became the League of Women Voters. The Famous Marching Presidents nonprofit in Nevada City produced a video that chronicles Ellen’s work for women’s suffrage.
